what is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a term which is often puzzling, misunderstood or convoluted. It is a trance like state which in reality we all go in and out of mild “trances” everyday. This happens when we focus attentively on something and block everything else out, or when we “zone out” either in front of the TV or with a book.

Hypnosis is a wakeful state where you are in:


  • A deep state of relaxation.
  • Hyperfocus and concentration.
  • Increased suggestibility.

In addition, this heightened state of mind you can use hypnosis to make changes to yourself beliefs, and patterns of thinking safely and naturally.

Your mind is an iceberg. The 10% of the iceberg that is above the surface is your conscious mind . The part below it is your subconscious or unconscious mind. The unconscious mind is a vessel for thoughts (the stories or movie we tell ourselves over and over again), emotions (like how you feel when you see a puppy or a baby), beliefs (an idea we hold as true), habits (what we do on autopilot), resources, and choices that we are not consciously aware of. The unconscious mind is responsible for all automatic body functions, such as your heartbeat, breathing, digestion, even blinking. You were not consciously aware of your breathing until right now. This is why we work with hypnosis to tap into the subconscious mind to make powerful changes. 


Hypnosis is one of the most powerful tools we use to bring about change, endless solutions and possibilities. 

Hypnosis works with your unconscious mind where all learning, behaviour and change happens. 

It would be difficult to change unconscious behaviours through the conscious mind however hypnosis makes it much easier to make the desired changes.

What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis (tool) to help you move toward happy, healthy and wholeness. Hypnotherapy is used to help you reach goals when nothing else has helped, or create a positive change in your thinking, or help solve a problem. 
What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis can be related to the feelings we experience just before the waking state or just as we drift off to sleep. Many would say it feels like daydreaming. When in hypnosis, people experience a state of complete mental, physical and emotional relaxation. At the end of the session you will return to being your fully alert normal self, you will feel refreshed and energized.
What happens in hypnosis?
A Certified Hypnotherapist uses hypnosis to enable the client to achieve a state of mental, physical and emotional relaxation. The hypnotherapist causes this trance formation by using indirect hypnotic commands to put you into a mild trance, a state where your conscious mind is largely in-active, direct access to your unconscious mind can be gained, and positive suggestions can be planted.
can anyone be hypnotized?
Yes, you already have been. It’s easy to go into hypnosis and it is a normal state of mind that everyone has already experienced.

In fact, hypnosis is such a normal state of mind, most people usually don’t even realize that they are hypnotized. Normal, everyday hypnosis occurs when you are driving down the road and lose track of time, or when you are focusing on a book or television program and you don’t even notice something that is going on around you.

When you come in for hypnosis, all you need to do is to be able to follow the instructions of the hypnotherapist and you can put the power of hypnosis to work for you. Anyone of at least normal intelligence and the willingness to follow instructions can experience hypnosis and use it to improve his or her life.

is hypnosis safe?
Hypnosis is safe.  It is similar in experience to when you daydream.  You will usually feel relaxed when doing hypnosis.  It is a time to let go of other thoughts of the day and focus on the issues you came in to work on.  Scientists, medical professionals, psychologists, and hypnotherapists have been using hypnosis for many years and no one has ever been hurt by simply going into hypnosis.  You are in control at all times. 
Does a hypnotized person lose control?
No.  Hypnosis is nothing but a state of relaxed deep focus. A hypnotized person always has control and can always hear what's going on. It is a natural state that you enter at least twice a day (while waking up and while falling asleep!) and probably much more often than that. While undergoing hypnotherapy, clients have the ability to communicate with their therapist and express any requests they may have. Experienced hypnotherapists are constantly verifying the comfort level of those in the trance.
Can I be hypnotized over zoom?
Since all hypnosis is self-hypnosis and you go in and out of various trances all day you can be hypnotized online.  Often times I find when you are in the comfort of your own environment you often go deeper into a hypnotic trance because you feel safe and comfortable with your surroundings. The same as when you read a good book or watch a good TV show or movie.

Here is what you will need to make your online hypnosis experience through Zoom most effective:
  • For the duration of the experience, commit to placing yourself in a *distraction-free* setting (no pets, phone silent, and so on).
  • The laptop, iPad, or phone should be on a table or stand not on your laps.
  • Please make sure your Camera is ON when you come into the zoom session. It is important for the hypnotherapist to see you like you would be in person. 
  • A set of headphones (recommended) make sure both the left and right earbuds are working. 
What is the history of hypnosis?
Hypnosis is one of the world's oldest sciences. Amazingly, ancient hieroglyphics show that the Egyptians were using hypnosis as early as 3,000 B.C. There is evidence the Greeks and the Mayans understood it and used it as well. Like other sciences, hypnotism has had its experimenters, its pioneers, its lucky guessers, and its experts.

While hypnosis has had a place in society for thousands of years, it has also carved out a place as a legitimate modern medical practice, where it is called hypnotherapy. 
IS HYPNOSIS COVERED BY INSURANCE?
It is always best to check with your insurance provider.  Many insurance companies these days have different approaches to coverage. ​
What Is A limiting Decision?
It’s a decision that you have made in the past that is no longer serving you. It might be holding you back. Unconsciously, we are all making limiting decisions everyday. Yes, some are empowering and others are indeed dis-empowering.
